TOURNAMENT DETAILS
TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES
We will provide scorekeepers. However, each team will be responsible for one person to help work the score table when the team is playing. One team’s person will do libero tracking while the other team’s person will flip the score. This can be done by a parent on the team as well as any student. And you can alternate who does this job throughout the day.
FORMAT
The tournament is a one-day event.
ESHS Format (NFHS-Sanctioned, Non-Homeschool Divisions)
Every team will play the number of sets equal to 5 matches. Aka, each team will play a minimum of 10 sets. The maximum number of sets played will be 15 as to fall in line with the VHSL set and match limits for tournaments.
Pool play will take place in the morning followed by playoffs in the afternoon.
We will have 2 divisions of Boys Varsity, 4 divisions of Girls Varsity, 2 division of Girls Junior Varsity.
We aim for all divisions to have 4 pools of 4 teams. However, the format for each division will depend on the number of teams with the potential of pools having 3 teams.
When scheduling, we do our best to avoid putting teams from the same conference into the same pool. However, this is not always avoidable.
While teams share their preferred divisions, they are subject to change for the final division placement based on various factors. Additionally, divisions may be split into two sub-divisions depending on team numbers, competition levels, or other considerations.
Format is subject to change depending on number of teams.
ESHHS Format (Homeschool Divisions)
Every team will play the number of sets equal to 3 matches. Aka each team will play a minimum of 9 sets. However, we are aiming to get to 4 or 5 matches if possible.
We aim to have 1 division of Boys Varsity, 1 division of Girls Varsity, 1 division of Girls Junior Varsity.
We aim for all divisions to have pools of 4 teams. However, the format for each division will depend on the number of teams with the potential of pools having 3 teams.
Format is subject to change depending on number of teams.
CONTEST LIMITATIONS
Virginia High School League (VHSL) & North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) Participation Guidelines
In accordance with VHSL Rule 54-8-1, the VHSL has established contest limitations for volleyball. Each school may choose from the following options for regular season play:
> 20 dual matches
> 18 dual matches + 1 invitational tournament
> 16 dual matches + 2 invitational tournaments
Invitational tournaments may not exceed two consecutive days of play, and teams are limited to a maximum of 15 sets per tournament.
North Carolina Teams (NCHSAA Members)
Per NCHSAA rules, teams from North Carolina are limited to a maximum of four matches in a single day. We will structure your schedule accordingly to ensure compliance with your state regulations.
Homeschool Teams
If you are registering a Homeschool Team, please use our other registration form which is for the homeschool event. Due to restrictions set by VHSL, we are hosting a separate event on the same day at the same time at the same location. In order to combine all teams into one event, VHSL needs to be convinced that homeschool associations are following all VHSL guidelines. If you are a homeschool team and want to be part of the solution so that all teams may participate in one event, we encourage you to communicate with VHSL to find out how your teams are able to comply with VHSL rules, to ensure VHSL that your teams are doing so, and, if already doing so, to let them know.
COACHES
Each team needs a unique Head Coach. Aka, an individual may NOT be listed as the Head Coach for more than one team participating in this event. This ensures that every team has a dedicated coach present and available throughout the competition.
